Turn it up: Jimmy Scott Free is back, and the energy is contagious. Turn Back Time, his first release in a decade, pairs the unmistakable, soul-lifting voice of the late house legend Kim English with a gleaming, euphoric production that’s built to light up radios and dancefloors alike. It’s the sound of renewal—confident, melodic, and unmistakably alive.
What stands out most is the balance. English’s vocal is given room to soar while the groove moves with effortless lift; every element feels purposeful. There’s warmth, there’s release, and there’s that joyful pulse you only get when a track is crafted by someone who knows exactly what makes a crowd lean in. Turn Back Time doesn’t chase trends—it sets a mood and sticks the landing.
Scott Free’s comeback arrives with the momentum of a life fully lived. Southend-born and now splitting time between the Midlands and Barcelona, he built his name the hard way: promoting nights from age 15, creating a live dance act with his brother, and rolling a self-built reggae-style sound system into venues that soon turned into national stages. Along the way, he shared bills with Peter Hook & The Light, Groove Armada, and Skunk Anansie, and took home Best Dance Track at the Exposure Music Awards in 2010.
After industry fatigue and his brother’s departure, he stepped away and moved to Spain. Then came the spark. “When my brother left the band, I lost my heart for music,” he says. “But when a friend visited last year and convinced me to plug in the studio again, I haven’t stopped writing since.” You can hear that renewed purpose in every bar: clear vision, crisp execution, and zero wasted motion.
Resilience is part of the story—and part of the strength. From surviving a gas explosion in Amsterdam at 21 to being wrongfully arrested at a London gig (later cleared in court), Scott Free has faced down chaos and come out focused. The independence that built his early scene now fuels this next phase—sharper, smarter, and totally on his terms.
Turn Back Time is the opening chapter in a run of releases leading to a full album, with a new live show on the table—this time with proper label support. A clean, simple music video is in the works, and behind-the-scenes studio footage may follow to document the rise.
“This is a new chapter, but the fire’s still the same. I’m doing this on my own terms, but with a lot more focus this time around,” he says. The track proves it: this isn’t just a return; it’s a reset conducted with style and heart.
